We’re organizing a one-day hackathon in San Francisco on June 21 focused on a specific technical challenge:

How can AI agents reduce energy waste in compute-heavy systems?

The rapid growth of AI workloads is creating a serious mismatch between performance and power. MARA wants to explore solutions that fix this problem.

This event is for engineers and builders who care about AI and energy. The hackathon is capped at 100 selected participants. The exact challenge will be revealed live on the day of the event.

Prize: 1 bitcoin

Location: San Francisco

Focus: AI, compute, and energy

Application: https://www.mara.com/hackathon-2025

This is not a pitch or a party. It’s a real build day for people serious about AI infrastructure. I’m happy to answer questions here and would love any feedback.

Hi! Will participants have access to any specific hardware or APIs during the event?

  • hickoryhashrate a day ago

No specific hardware will be provided, but participants will have access to APIs to help prototype their solutions. We won’t be sharing the API details until the day of the event. They’ll be introduced alongside the challenge prompt to keep things level for all teams.

Can you share more about the requirements? I have expertise in AI, but not energy.

  • hickoryhashrate a day ago

    Absolutely, no energy background required.

We’re looking for builders who can think critically about how AI agents might be used to improve compute efficiency. That could mean smarter scheduling, load balancing, power-aware inference, or even model-level optimizations. If you’re strong in AI, that’s already a great foundation.

The challenge prompt will be revealed on the day of the hackathon, but it’s designed to be approachable from multiple angles..., systems, infra, or model design.

Happy to chat more if helpful.
